welcome to NEFARIOUS

What is NEFARIOUS?

Nefarious is a grassroots collective with the goal of making the practice of film photography accessible in Thunder Bay. Started by Riley Urquhart and Sarah McPherson in 2021, this project is dedicated to educating and building a community of artists utilizing photography as a way to explore our individual experiences.

As well as providing limited, donation-based film development within the city of Thunder Bay, we also host events and workshops focused on engaging aspiring, amateur, and professional photographers as well as other interested individuals in all of the creative possibilities within film photography. This includes practicing double-exposure, film souping, development, and more.

How can I get involved?

While we hope to expand to other platforms in the future, right now we are solely sharing work and updates through Instagram. Our workshops and events are on hold at the moment due to the pandemic, but they are open to all who’d like to participate. Updates on upcoming events can be found on this website and on our Instagram account. We are also building a more focused collective for those who want to support Nefarious from the inside–our dream is for this project to be run by the community.
